Last but by no means least, Laura shares the whole meaning behind ‘yoga’, looking at the practice as a journey to personal growth or ‘enlightenment’. Today, when we hear or say, ‘I practice yoga’ what most people mean is they practice yoga poses, also known as Asana (pose, or actually seat for meditation), which is only ⅛ of ‘yoga’. Yoga means union, coming together of the mind, body and spirit, and there are 8 limbs of yoga, or pathways to ‘enlightenment’. These include yoga poses, but focus just as much, if not more, on breath, meditation and our ways of being as a human. In this chapter, Laura talks us through the other limbs of yoga, to explain how yoga is so much more than just yoga poses, and how this pathway can lead to absolute health.
